“Built for large commercial construction with dozens of stakeholders. If you're running $5M+ projects, it earns its keep, but the cost and complexity make it wildly overkill for residential or small commercial work.”

Overview
Procore is the dominant construction project management platform for large commercial and residential builders globally. It's used by major Australian builders across projects ranging from $5M to $500M+ and covers the full lifecycle: preconstruction, project management, financial management, quality and safety, and workforce management.
The platform is designed for complexity. Multiple stakeholders, project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, architects, and clients, all work within Procore on the same project. RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily logs, punch lists, and drawing management are all handled in a single integrated system. The financial module tracks budgets, commitments, and cost-to-complete across the full project lifecycle.
Strengths: Purpose-built for complex construction projects. The breadth of functionality is unmatched: no other platform handles preconstruction through to closeout as comprehensively. Drawing management and RFI workflows are excellent. The financial module provides real-time cost visibility across multiple projects. Strong mobile app for site-based teams. Subcontractor portal allows external parties to collaborate without separate licences.
Limitations: This is an enterprise product with enterprise pricing, expect $375+ AUD/month and likely much more depending on project volume. Procore is significant overkill for residential trade businesses, sole traders, or small teams. Implementation takes weeks to months and typically requires a dedicated project manager. The complexity that makes it powerful also makes it heavy, there's a real learning curve for site-based staff.
Procore is the right choice for commercial builders running $5M+ projects with multiple stakeholders. For everyone else, it's far more than you need.
Pros & Cons
Best for
Large commercial builders, civil contractors, and construction companies running $5M+ projects with multiple stakeholders, subcontractors, and complex financial tracking requirements.
Not ideal for
Any residential trade business under 50 staff. If you're a sparky, plumber, or small builder, Simpro, AroFlo, or Buildxact will do what you need at a fraction of the cost.

Solid NZ-built job management app that handles quoting, scheduling, invoicing, and time tracking. Great starting point for small teams, but you'll outgrow it past 15-20 staff.

ServiceM8
Aussie-built field service app with a pay-per-job pricing model instead of monthly seats. The iOS app is genuinely great, Android has historically been a step behind.

Built by a plumber who was sick of losing money on jobs, so the cost tracking is genuinely good. Pulls live supplier pricing from Reece and Tradelink, which saves real time on quotes.
