ServiceM8 is built in Canberra and has been a staple of the Australian trade tech market since 2010. It's one of the few platforms in this space that was built in Australia for Australian businesses.

What sets ServiceM8 apart is its mobile experience — arguably the best iOS app in the category — and its unique per-job pricing model (you pay per job dispatched, rather than per user per month). For sole traders doing consistent volume, this can work out significantly cheaper than subscription-based alternatives.

Strengths: The iOS app is genuinely excellent. Client communication features are strong — automated SMS confirmations, GPS tracking visible to customers, and digital sign-off on the spot. The form and checklist builder is powerful for SWMS, safety checklists, and variation approvals.

Limitations: The Android app has historically lagged the iOS version (though this has improved). The per-job pricing model can become expensive at high job volumes. The platform works best when your workflow is relatively straightforward — complex multi-stage project management isn't its strength.
